What is a BIN checker?

A Bank Identification Number (BIN), also called an Issuer Identification Number (IIN), is the first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card. It identifies the institution that issued the card and the network it runs on.

A BIN checker matches those digits against a database of card ranges and returns the issuing bank, card brand, card type (credit, debit or prepaid), card level and the issuing country. Merchants use it to reduce fraud, route payments and understand their customers.

Visatk gives you this lookup for free, together with bulk checking, BIN search, IP geolocation, chargeback and MCC references, fee calculators and a public JSON API.

Frequently asked questions

What is a BIN number?

The BIN (Bank Identification Number) is the first 6–8 digits of a credit, debit or prepaid card. It tells you which bank issued the card, the card network and the country of issue.

Is this BIN checker free?

Yes. Every lookup and every tool on Visatk is free with no registration. Our database currently holds 343,063 BIN records.

Can a BIN identify the card holder?

No. A BIN only describes the card range and issuer. It contains no personal data and cannot be used to identify or charge a person.

Do you store the numbers I check?

No. Only the first digits are sent for the lookup and nothing is logged against you. Never enter a full card number on any website you do not trust.

Why do some BINs show no result?

New ranges are issued constantly and some issuers do not publish theirs. If a BIN is missing we still detect the card network from the leading digits.

Do you offer an API?

Yes. A free JSON API returns the same data for any BIN, and supports bulk lookups. See the API documentation.
